When Pigs Fly

After reading the book Maybe by Kobi Yamada, our 4th grade students reviewed figurative language and participated in four STEM activities. The first STEM activity was called When Pigs Fly and the students learned about the lever simple machine.

* I learned that a catapult uses a lever to launch objects into the air. - Jayden (Fred Douglass)
* I was able to create a simple lever using a ruler and a glue stick to launch my pig! - Celia (Joe Wright)
* I was able to launch my pig really far with using my lever. - Maddox (Fred Douglass)
* I figured out where to place the fulcrum under my lever to launch my pig the longest distance! - Nathan (Joe Wright)
